Avanza Staff

Maria is the Executive Director of Avanza, KUER, and PBS Utah, all licensed by the University of Utah. Her journalism career began as a reporter covering the Utah legislature, welfare reform, business and the environment for KUER. She then directed a variety of teams who produce news and information at the Salt Lake Observer, Deseret News, and KSL-TV.

Edgar is the Program Director of Avanza. A two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, he was born in New York City to Colombian parents and raised in Salt Lake City. With extensive experience at NBC News, Telemundo Network, and KUER, Edgar has dedicated his career to telling impactful stories across diverse communities. Most recently, he served as a Communications Delegate for the American Red Cross in Europe.

Carina is the Engagement Producer of Avanza. Carina graduated from Utah State University as the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Valedictorian with degrees in Sociology, Intersectional Gender Studies, and Sexuality Studies.

Elle is the Production Coordinator of Avanza. A recent graduate of the University of Utah, Elle has worked at sister station KUER.
