On Conexión, Carina Linares, Community Engagement Producer at Avanza 88.3, sat down with Ben Anderson, CEO and co-founder of Park City Song Summit, to explore what makes the festival unique.
Anderson explained the inspiration: “In 2017 I have a number of friends in the music industry, and we were losing a lot of friends to mental health challenges… I am a long time musician myself and love live music, but if we want to keep this around, we need to keep our artists around, and we need to keep them healthy.”
He added, “Another aspect was I felt like there was an underrepresentation of our BIPOC communities and our LGBTQIA+ communities and just women in general on stages.”
Anderson previewed what folks can expect: “We’ll have conversations about mental health in music and other industries... technology’s role in the arts, and the importance of sobriety and inclusivity in the music world. There’s also a free community stage with yoga, meditation and music all day.”
The festival runs August 15–16 in Park City and has both paid and free events.
Ben ended the interview with heartfelt thanks to our station: “Deepest gratitude for everything that you’re doing at Avanza 88.3. I appreciate the work you’re doing. We need more of what you’re doing out there in this world.”
