No te limites.
"There's no such thing as luck": Eli Madrigal on the Hard Work Behind Rancho Markets' Success
Rancho Markets founder and CEO Eli Madrigal spoke with Pablo Tellechea on Avanza 88.3 about her journey from growing up in poverty in Mexico to building Utah's leading Hispanic supermarket chain. In the Spanish-language interview, Madrigal said she immigrated to the United States at age 15, driven by both necessity and a determination to build a better life.
"I came to the United States because of hunger, because I needed to work. I knew that in Mexico I didn't have the same opportunities that the United States could offer me. My mindset was always to rise out of poverty. I come from a humble, low-income family, and I truly saw hope when I came to the United States to build a different life," Madrigal said. After starting out collecting shopping carts and working her way through a variety of supermarket jobs, she opened her first store in Utah in 2006.
"When I opened my first supermarket, I worked seven days a week, 15 to 16 hours a day. I kept that pace for three years. It's incredibly demanding work, but it's also deeply rewarding," she said. Today, Rancho Markets operates nearly 10 supermarkets across Utah.
"People may think success is just a matter of luck, but it's not. There's no such thing as luck here. It's about hard work and discipline to move a business forward. There will always be good times and difficult times, and you have to be prepared for the difficult ones."
Madrigal also shared a message with Avanza listeners who dream of starting their own businesses. "Don't be afraid. You can succeed. There will be obstacles, but you're stronger than you think. Don't limit yourself. Do what you have to do, but do it with passion," she said.
