Utah Venezolanos rally after quakes: How to help

Avanza Informa

Cómo ayudar. Edgar Zúñiga speaks with Frengy Alvarado of Panas en Utah, who explains local relief efforts and where Utahns can donate supplies for Venezuela.

"Our community is deeply saddened by what is happening in our country. Because of that, we've set up a donation drop-off site in the city of Murray," said Frengy Alvarado, journalist and founder of Panas en Utah and host of a Panas en Utah: Avanza on Avanza 88.3 KUUB. "We will be accepting donations of medical supplies, including bandages, gauze, syringes, gloves, face masks, antibiotics, and pain relievers. We are also collecting nonperishable food items, such as canned goods, cereal bars, powdered milk, bottled water, and ready-to-eat foods," Frengy added.

The AP is reporting 188 dead, 157 missing and more than 1,500 injured. The local community here feels the death toll may be much higher. According to USGS, tens of thousands of people may have died, after Venezuela was struck with 7.2 and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes yesterday. Response and recovery will take months, Frengy said, adding that the local community's goal is to gather as many supplies and non-perishable food items as possible for an initial air shipment to arrive within the next two weeks.

Panas en Utah is helping to run a drop-off site location at 162 East 4500 South, Murray, Utah 84107.
