Our hearts are with everyone affected by the recent tragedies in Salt Lake. Over the weekend, two separate shootings shook our community—one at WestFest in West Valley City and another during the “No Kings” protest in downtown Salt Lake.
At WestFest, 8-month-old Anderson García lost his life — an unimaginable and heartbreaking loss. His family is now raising funds on GoFundMe to return his body to Guatemala for burial. No family should ever have to endure such a tragedy. Our thoughts are also with the families of Hassan Lugundi and Fnu Reena, who were also killed in the shooting.
We also mourn the death of Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, a talented local fashion designer, husband, and father of two, who died while participating in a peaceful protest downtown. He was exercising his First Amendment rights and should have returned home safely.
Many of you were at WestFest and the downtown protest. We are grateful that more people weren’t hurt, but we know the fear and trauma from these events can linger. Please be gentle with yourselves and with one another.
